Guided Reading (Kinder -5th Grade)     

Objective     

     The main objective of the guided reading program is to help the students in small group setting to advance to grade level in fluency and comprehension of the English language.

Characteristics

  • The students are divided into Small-Groups according to their reading level.
  • The students read high-quality fiction and content based leveled texts with specific instruction.
  • The students receive differentiated instruction.
  • The Guided Reading Program teaches all aspects of reading including—comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, and word-solving strategies
  • The Guided Reading Program promotes deepen comprehension through discussion of a text that is more challenging than independent level
  • The student’s vocabulary in English increases and they develop the ability to talk about texts.
  •  Students are tested with the running records at least 3 times during the school year to monitor their progress.
  •  Students reading below grade level are offered a summer enrichment program.
